Advertising and Sponsorship
Impact Journals (including Impact Surgery and related titles) accept advertising and sponsorship to support open access publishing activities, subject to conditions that protect editorial independence, scientific integrity, and public trust in the scholarly record.
Editorial independence
Editorial decisions at Impact Journals are made independently of advertising, sponsorship, and other commercial relationships. Advertising and sponsorship have no influence on the selection of content, peer review, editorial decisions, or publication timing. The Editor-in-Chief and editorial leadership retain full authority to accept or reject advertising and sponsorship proposals, and commercial considerations do not override editorial judgement.
This approach is consistent with recommendations from the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), which emphasise that advertising must not influence editorial decisions and that policies should explicitly preserve editorial independence.
Acceptable advertising
Impact Journals may accept advertising related to:
-
scientific and medical conferences and events
-
education, training, and professional development opportunities relevant to the readership
-
research tools, infrastructure, and services that support scholarly activity
-
medical devices or technologies with appropriate regulatory approval
-
initiatives that support research, innovation, or scholarly communication
All advertising content must be legal, accurate, and not misleading, and must comply with applicable laws and industry codes of practice.
Unacceptable advertising
Impact Journals do not accept advertising for:
-
products or services that make unsubstantiated medical or therapeutic claims
-
products without appropriate regulatory approval where required by law
-
tobacco, vaping, or other products harmful to health
-
political advocacy, lobbying, or content that may compromise patient safety, scientific integrity, or public confidence
Impact Journals reserve the right to reject or remove advertising at any time at the discretion of the editorial leadership.
Identification and separation from editorial content
All advertising and sponsored content is clearly identified as such and is presented in a manner that is visually distinct from peer-reviewed editorial material. Advertorials or any sponsored material that could be confused with scholarly content are not published. Sponsored activities or supplements, where applicable, are clearly labelled and separated from the peer-review and editorial processes.
Legal and ethical compliance
Advertisers are responsible for ensuring that their content complies with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards in the jurisdictions in which the advertisement appears. Impact Journals aim to follow recognised best practices in medical publishing ethics, including guidance from ICMJE and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
